Vermont uses two letters on their lottery tickets. Of what I have seen so far: If the letters match, it is a winner. If the letters don’t, it is a loser.

EE – \$1
UU – \$100

Thanks

i agree with rich because its really popular for that to happen so EE would equal \$1.

ee on my ticket is a 3\$ winner?

• 1:34 PM on March 31st, 2011

Thanks for letting us know. Can anyone else verify the dollar amount for “ee”?

4. 11:14 PM on August 4th, 2011

WW= \$100. not UU.. the letters U,L,Y,P are losing codes..there will be a combination of two of the four for a lose..if you have 2 of the same letters you win.

HH= \$8
KK= \$50

Unless Vermont changed it’s letter code, I could have sworn that my \$100 winner was U-U. But unfortunately it has been two years since I had that ticket and cannot verify it.

I know U is used as a losing letter when paired with a different letter, but sometimes they try to fool you like in other states.

• 7:36 PM on February 4th, 2012

Just because you get a U L Y P doesn’t mean that it’s a loser. any winners 100 or above don’t have a double letter…meaning they are those for letters you listed.

Actually, P and U do NOT necessarily mean a loser, so LOOK!! I had a scratch off ticket a few years back, and at first when I saw those two letters..I almost threw it away ( I usually scratch and find the letters first)..but I decided to scratch the rest and thank goodness! It was a 500 dollar winner! So look carefully, even if you see “loser” letters. :-)

My dad has won “grand prize” on two or three different tickets in the past few years – and anything over \$100 winner (\$100 is WW I think) has what is normally losing letters – being Y, U, L, and P. i can’t remember if grand prize winners are the same losing letter twice or a combination of two different ones as in real losers, but everyone just keep that in mind. It makes me sad to think of how many people have probably thrown away big winners because they only look at the letters.

12. 9:52 PM on September 18th, 2012

I just got A \$9 winner on the 7 11 21 ticket it was A \$3 winner on all 3 games and the code was XX.

to respond to nick, i won 500 last spring on the 3 dollar rings of cash and the letters are the odd letters you mentioned, but to confirm for you they are not identical or double (as i heard from some people before) they are actually a combination of two of those mentioned letters, i.e. U and L or P and Y. Im figuring the state does the top prizes this way to get people to throw away their big winners if they do not check their game good enough. Ive also seen some people just scratch for the letters and if its not a winning letter they will throw them away without even scratching the rest of the ticket. I wonder how many top prizes have been thrown away over the years by people doing this.

It is true… that any scratch tix in VT that are winners (anything over \$100) has two mis matched letters.. (U,L,P,or Y). I just hit a \$250 dollar winner TODAY that has letters U and P….NEVER EVER PLAY THE GAME LOOKING FOR LETTERS… cuz you may loose out and throw out a winner.. the lottery does that on purpose to catch the addicts just looking for letters… i have never been one… one time i found a \$100 winner looking thru the trash cuz i double check… dont be fooled

15. 7:59 AM on July 16th, 2013

I got a \$12 winner and the letters are AA

What does it mean when you have NO letters on your scratch ticket?? I’m puzzled, have gotten many tickets before today, and have ALWAYS had letters on them…

• 7:11 PM on November 21st, 2013

They are doing away with the letter codes….
